BR-08: Seller postal address is missing

EN 16931 core rule · Error · UBL / CII

StandardEN 16931-1 (European e-invoicing semantic model)SeverityError: the invoice is rejectedSyntaxUBL, CIIApplies toEvery EN 16931 invoice: XRechnung, ZUGFeRD 2.x / Factur-X (profiles EN 16931, EXTENDED, XRECHNUNG), Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, and national CIUS such as the Dutch NLCIUS or the Italian/Spanish profiles.

Official rule text

[BR-08] An Invoice shall contain the Seller postal address.

Why this error occurs

The rule checks that the seller address group (BG-5) exists: cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/cac:PostalAddress in UBL, ram:SellerTradeParty/ram:PostalTradeAddress in CII. The supplier's address is required on every VAT invoice and is used to identify the issuing establishment. It is usually missing because the address master data was not mapped, or the export writes the address only as free text in a note.

How to fix it

In UBL add cac:PostalAddress under cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party with at least cac:Country/cbc:IdentificationCode (BT-40, required by BR-09), plus cbc:StreetName, cbc:CityName and cbc:PostalZone. In CII add ram:PostalTradeAddress under ram:SellerTradeParty with ram:PostcodeCode, ram:LineOne, ram:CityName and ram:CountryID. Note that XRechnung additionally requires city and post code (BR-DE-3, BR-DE-4).

Example (valid)

<cac:PostalAddress>
  <cbc:StreetName>Musterstraße 1</cbc:StreetName>
  <cbc:CityName>Berlin</cbc:CityName>
  <cbc:PostalZone>10115</cbc:PostalZone>
  <cac:Country><cbc:IdentificationCode>DE</cbc:IdentificationCode></cac:Country>
</cac:PostalAddress>
